Most people assume drawing a floor plan requires specialist software, a steep learning curve, or at minimum a laptop and a mouse. BenCAD was built to prove that wrong.
Here's how to go from a blank canvas to a fully dimensioned floor plan — on your phone, in under five minutes.
Step 1: Open BenCAD
There's nothing to install. Open your browser, go to bencad.com and tap START DRAWING. That's it. No account, no signup, no loading screen.
Step 2: Set your scale
Before you draw anything, set the scale. Tap the scale indicator at the bottom of the screen and choose how many millimetres each grid square represents. For a typical room, 100mm per grid works well. For a whole house, try 500mm.
Step 3: Draw your walls
Select the LINE tool and tap to set your start point, then tap again to set the end. Lines snap to grid automatically, so your walls will always align. Tap RECT to draw a complete room outline in two taps.
Step 4: Add dimensions
Dimensions appear automatically as you draw. Every line shows its real-world length based on your scale. No manual measuring needed.
Step 5: Label your rooms
Tap LABEL, tap inside a room and type its name. BenCAD automatically calculates the floor area and displays it inside the room outline.
Step 6: Save or share
Tap the menu and save your drawing as a .bencad file to pick up later, or use Download to export a PNG you can share with a client or colleague.
That's a complete floor plan. No training required.
